Morning routine checklist for school

This morning routine checklist turns the school-day scramble into a list your child can follow themselves. It is tick-box format, so a child can work down it without being nagged through every step, which is the whole point: fewer reminders from you, more independence from them.

There are two versions on the sheet. The Reception-friendly one is short and picture-led, for children who are still learning to read: get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth, shoes on, book bag. The version for older children adds the things juniors and seniors actually forget, reading record, water bottle, the right kit for the day, homework or prep in the bag.

Print whichever fits, or both for siblings of different ages, and stick it at child height by the door or in the bedroom. Laminate it, or slide it into a plastic wallet, and a whiteboard pen turns it into a reusable daily tick list. It is free, with no sign-up, and works on its own or alongside a weekly family planner for the bigger picture.
