Is ParentPay down? What to check

Cyril is not affiliated with ParentPay. This is an independent guide for parents.

If ParentPay will not load or will not let you log in, it is usually one of three things: a short outage or scheduled maintenance at ParentPay's end, a problem with your login details, or your web browser. ParentPay does not publish a live status dashboard, so the quickest way to tell a real outage from a glitch on your side is to try a different device or a different network. If ParentPay loads fine on your phone's mobile data but not on your home wifi, the problem is local, not national.

The other thing worth knowing up front: most ParentPay account problems are sorted fastest by your child's school, not by ParentPay. ParentPay deals with parents through the school rather than over the phone. Here is how to work through it.

How do I know if ParentPay is actually down?

Because there is no official real-time status page, start by ruling out your own setup. Open ParentPay on a second device, or switch your phone from wifi to mobile data and try again. If it loads on one and not the other, ParentPay itself is fine and the issue is your connection, browser or account.

When ParentPay does take the site down on purpose, it shows a scheduled-maintenance message rather than simply failing. You can check ParentPay's own maintenance notice and its help centre for any current notices. Parents often compare notes in class WhatsApp groups or on outage-checker sites too, which is fine as a sanity check, but remember those are unofficial: a handful of people reporting a problem does not always mean ParentPay is down for everyone.

ParentPay will not let me log in. What now?

Your username is normally the email address you used when you set the account up. If the password is the problem, use the forgotten-password link on the sign-in screen. ParentPay emails you a reset link, and that link expires if you do not use it within seven days, so if it does not appear within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder before requesting another.

A few things that catch people out:

  • If you have forgotten your username rather than your password, your child's school can confirm the email address linked to your account.
  • Several failed attempts can temporarily lock an account. Waiting and resetting the password is usually quicker than fighting it.
  • It is worth adding an account-recovery option (a second email or a phone number) in your profile settings once you are back in, so a future reset is easier.

ParentPay's official forgotten username or password guide has the current steps if you get stuck.

Could it be my browser?

ParentPay needs a current, supported web browser, and it uses strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in and secure. If you block those cookies, or you are on a very old browser, the site can misbehave or refuse to log you in.

Quick things to try, in order: clear your browser cache, open ParentPay in a private or incognito window, and if it still fails, try a different up-to-date browser. ParentPay's cookie information explains why the necessary cookies cannot be switched off if you want the site to work.

Should I contact ParentPay or the school?

For almost anything to do with your account, payments, dinner money or a specific item, contact your child's school first. This is ParentPay's own advice, not just ours: ParentPay does not run a phone helpline for parents, and if you raise something that only the school or caterer can change, ParentPay will direct you back to the school.

If the school genuinely cannot help and it is a ParentPay system problem, you can log an issue through ParentPay's parent help centre. Going through the school first is almost always faster.

It still will not work. What else can I try?

If you have ruled out an outage and you still cannot get in, run through the basics in order before assuming the worst:

  • Try a different device, and your mobile data instead of wifi.
  • Restart the browser, or the phone, and try again.
  • Clear the cache or open a private window.
  • Check you are at the real parentpay.com address, not a link from an unexpected email.

If it works on one device but not another, the fault is local to the first device, not ParentPay. If none of it helps and it looks like an account problem rather than a system one, that is the point to ask your child's school, who can see and fix things at their end that you cannot.

What if a payment deadline falls while ParentPay is down?

This is the part that actually matters. A trip balance or a dinner-money top-up does not stop being due just because the site is offline for an hour. Note the deadline somewhere you will see it, pay the moment ParentPay is back, and if you genuinely think you will miss it, send the school a quick message. Schools know outages happen and can usually give you a little longer.

The wider problem is that the deadline arrived buried in a school email in the first place. This is exactly the job Cyril does: forward the school's payment reminder to your private Cyril address and it pulls out the amount and the due date, keeps it on one dated plan for your family, and reminds you, so a ParentPay outage today does not quietly turn into a missed payment next week.
